Introduction

This is the Open Source Geospatial Foundation (OSGeo) Graphic Style Guide. This documents aims at providing standards of usage for the OSGeo Foundation's visual identity. It proposes a tentative modernization of the OSGeo brand to make it stronger, more visible and multimedia.

The Graphic Style Guide is a work in progress initiated by the OSGeo Marketing Committee with the goal to develop a consistent message and image for OSGeo. The committee would like to establish graphic standards and simple policies in order to maintain the uniformity of presentation necessary for successful promotional and marketing efforts.

Visual identity symbolizes the Foundation's strength, promise of quality and competence. Proper treatment of logo, fonts and color ensures that it will be recognized amid communications clutter. Graphic standards are a visual expression of OSGeo and should serve as the base for our overall communications strategy.

This very first version of the Graphic Style Guide outlines the core elements of the proposed new OSGeo logo. Next versions will focus on branding assets and how to spread the OSGeo brand across the web, mobile devices and printed material.
